Titel 1 Communication: (exam topic)

Full title: Communication: Understanding and misunderstanding: Exam topic:

The focus of this topic was on how and why misunderstandings occur in various situations. The topic examined misunderstandings in literature and "real life". In addition, we examined misunderstandings from a cultural and linguistic perspective. We examined how using English as a lingua franca forces us to consider how misunderstandings might occur. The topic included texts from different literary periods such as modernism (Hemingway) and postmodernism. We paid special attention to point of view and the unreliable narrator.
The topic dealt with analysis of fiction and non-fiction texts as well as film.

Titel 2 The American Election (exam topic)

This topic focused on how to analyze election rhetoric. We examined speeches and campaign videos from both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. In addition, we analyzed a short section of Trump's inaugural address.
The topic included a written assignment, in which the students could choose to analyze either a Trump Speech or a Harris Speech.  We examined modes of persuasion, argumentation and rhetorical devices.

Titel 3 Crime Stories (exam topic)



This topic focused on the crime story as a genre.
We examined different types of crime stories and different kinds of detectives. The focus was primarily on analyzing fiction; however it also included a look at the Victorian age and its most notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper. The students prepared short presentations about the Victorian Age.  In connection with Jack the Ripper, we learned about True Crime as a genre.
In connection with the topic, the students read "The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Nighttime" and prepared analytical podcasts about the novel.

Titel 4 The Experience of War (Exam topic)

The focus of this topic was on the soldiers. How do/did they experience war? What are the psychological consequences of war. In addition, we focussed on other consequences of war, such as destruction, migration, the refugee experience etc...

This topic included both fiction and non-fiction, including the genre of memoir. In addition we examined several poems with a focus on poetic devices and imagery..
Texts from Canada were included.

Titel 5 Universal themes in Shakespeare: Madness (exam)

This topic dealt with Shakespeare's influence on modern English and questioned why Shakespeare is relevant today. We examined words and idioms that Shakespeare coined or made famous. We examined why Shakespeare has had such an impact on English literature and why it is required reading. The focus of this topic was on "Shakespeare appreciation" and understanding the Elizabethan Era. We examined Shakespeare thematically and dealt with the theme of madness in Hamlet and Macbeth. The focus was on understanding the characters' motivation.

Approximately 21 pages + background information and research.
