EKSAMEN: India - past and present
Dette forløb har fokus på Indien efter kolonitiden, hvor fokus er på konflikterne mellem hinduer og muslimer ifm. ”the partition” samt Indiens selvstændighed. Desuden arbejdes der med det moderne Indien og emner som ulighed og fordomme ift. kvindernes rolle, ”pigmentocracy” og ”caste system”. Der fokuseres også på indisk kultur, religion, mad, musik og engelsk som Lingua franca.
Metodisk arbejdes der med novelleanalyse, retorisk analyse, kampagneanalyse, semantiske felter, og filmanalyse.
I forbindelse med forløbet on Indien, læser vi romanen ”White Tiger” af Aravind Adiga (2008). Bogen handler om en fortælling om Indien gennem et brev som hovedpersonen, Balram Halwai, skriver til den kinesiske premierminister. I brevet beskriver Balram livet som en fattig indisk mand i “Mørket” og hans rejse til “Lyset”. Gennem Balrams brev bliver man sat ind i et liv i Indien med kontraster mellem de fattige og de rige og hvor landet bliver beskrevet som præget af korruption, fattigdom og undertrykkelse af de fattige.
