The Repercussions of Empire EKSAMENSEMNE
In this unit we have explored Britain's role as an imperial power in different countries and the repercussions on culture, identity, language, and power. We have also looked into Britain as a modern, multicultural society and issues arising from the imperial past, including English as lingua franca.

American Minimalism EKSAMENSEMNE
In this unit we have studied selected short stories by Ernest Hemingway and Raymond Carver. Firstly, we looked into the iceberg theory/the theory of omission as a lense for reading Hemingway's stories, and we found information about Hemingway's own life and related it to the stories. We also looked into the literary period of Modernism as a frame for understanding the stories. Secondly, we looked into the minimalist writing of Raymond Carver and "Dirty Realism" and discussed how themes of social class, love, identity, alcoholism are portrayed in the stories.

Man, Nature, and the City EKSAMENSEMNE
We have looked into different aspects of the relationship between humans, nature, and society in different text types from different literary periods. In the unit we have read poems from the British Romantic Period and an excerpt from "Walden" to relate it to American Transcendentalism.
We have also read the autobiography "Educated" by Tara Westover as our literary work and discussed various issues explored in the novel, including perspectives on nature and society, power, language, gender, and education.
