Titel 1 Intro Topic - TCKs + BOW: Bend It Like Beckham

This topic introduces a number of text types that you will come across in your English classes. We work with these in connection with a thematic exploration of what it means to be a TCK.

Within this topic, we also deal with our first non-literary body of work (BOW): Gurinder Chadha's "Bend It Like Beckham"

In this topic we study a non-literary body of work comprising a selection of Benetton print adverts with photographs by Olivieri Toscani. Our focus is to learn precise analysis with subject specific terminology for images, print ads and shockvertising as well as to consider the global issues the ads deal with.

This topic deals with a selection of short stories by Margaret Atwood from the two shot story collections "The Tent" and "Good Bones and Simple Murders." Our focus is to explore the communication of the author to the reader through the text through analysis with subject specific terminology. We will also deal with intertextuality and discuss global issues.

Titel 5 HL Only. Literary Work: H. A. Fairytales

In this unit, we explore selected fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen. Once again we rehearse analysis with subject specific terminology of prose fiction and more specifically the fairy tale genre. We will also discuss global issues and we will have a special focus on the application of schools literary criticism: reader-response, feminism, marxism, psycho-analysis and biographical.

Titel 12 Literary Work - Macbeth by William Shakeapeare

We study Shakespeare's Macbeth in full. We will link it to our ideas about evil as well as to our other literary works in preparation for Paper 2. We will include a lot of context knowledge in order to fully understand and appreciate the work. We will also work with acting and remediation.

Titel 13 Literary Work: Chronicle of a Death Foretold

This topic studies Gabriel Garcia Márquez' novel "Chronicle of a Death Foretold".

We focus especially on active reading with while-reading tasks and analysis as well as student-guided lesson content in order to increase individual responsibility in preparations for revision, exams and the overall goal of the mature appreciation of language and literature.

We also focus on Paper 2 relevant approaches with regards to essay structure and analysis.
