Titel 1	Studieretningsuge: Ideologies A brief introduction to the "Engelsk A - Samfundsfag A" field of study. In both English and Social Science, students have a look at ideologies in current issues in the US as a way to demonstrate how the two subjects can work together.
Indhold	Kernestof: No homework :). Today, we will take a look at speeches. Do task 2 and 3 on page 4 in the worksheet from last time, "Two speeches on healthcare in the US". Bring both worksheet and your copy of the two speeches. In class, we will read Bernie Sander's speech. We will start the lesson by rounding off Bernie Sanders' speech: Write a response to questions 2-5 in the worksheet (we are not quite done with question 2). You might have to re-read the speech to answer the questions properly. Bring your copies to c

Titel 2	Twisted Minds There is something about psychopaths and madmen that fascinates us. Just think about how much attention writers and filmmakers pay to individuals whose actions differ so much from the norms and laws of society that we consider them unacceptable, insane or even evil. Cases like these raise questions about the complexity of the human mind and about human nature: What is evil? Is man fundamentally good or evil – or do we possess both elements? What triggers evil, and what prevents it from surfacing? 'Twisted Minds' deals with individuals who do not fit into the category of what is considered morally or psychologically ‘normal’. We will look at the way in which these individuals are portrayed in fiction, and we will discuss some of the questions that their stories raise about human nature and psychology. Indhold	Kernestof: Since you are probably tired from Thursday night's MGP show, I will spare you from any homework today ;-). In class, we will begin our first real theme-based course. I look forward to seeing you again. Homework: Complete the final task on the worksheet from yesterday: a characterisation of the son (worksheet can be found on yesterday's lesson). Write notes, so you are ready to share your conclusions with the rest of the class. We will finish the short story ”Why, Honey?”. Homework: Write a scene from the short story "Why, Honey?" in the son's perspective. Your scene should be around 400 words (give or take), and be uploaded on Lectio --> under "Opgaver" ---> "Why, Honey?" before the beginning of the lesson. Titel 3	Colour Lines This course takes a look at some of the issues surrounding race in the US, including history, society, and every-day life. The title “Colour Lines” refers to two overall aspects of the course: First, it illustrates the lines that run through history. These are lines that connect the past with the present and show how past events have impacted present-day racial issues. In this connection, we will focus on the Black American experience. Second, it deals with some of the invisible lines in modern America that still divide its citizens according to colour when it comes to areas of wealth, justice system and many more.
