A brief introduction to the "Engelsk A - Samfundsfag A" field of study. In both English and Social Science, students have a look at ideologies in current issues in the US as a way to demonstrate how the two subjects can work together.

Titel 2 Twisted Minds

There is something about psychopaths and madmen that fascinates us. Just think about how much attention writers and filmmakers pay to individuals whose actions differ so much from the norms and laws of society that we consider them unacceptable, insane or even evil. Cases like these raise questions about the complexity of the human mind and about human nature: What is evil? Is man fundamentally good or evil – or do we possess both elements? What triggers evil, and what prevents it from surfacing?

'Twisted Minds' deals with individuals who do not fit into the category of what is considered morally or psychologically ‘normal’. We will look at the way in which these individuals are portrayed in fiction, and we will discuss some of the questions that their stories raise about human nature and psychology.

Titel 3 Colour Lines

This course takes a look at some of the issues surrounding race in the US, including history, society, and every-day life. The title “Colour Lines” refers to two overall aspects of the course:
First, it illustrates the lines that run through history. These are lines that connect the past with the present and show how past events have impacted present-day racial issues. In this connection, we will focus on the Black American experience.
Second, it deals with some of the invisible lines in modern America that still divide its citizens according to colour when it comes to areas of wealth, justice system and many more.
