A look at USA of today with focus on society and culture. The concept of the "American dream" will be examined in some non-fiction texts, but the course also includes a couple of modern American short stories. So textual analysis of both types are included in the course.

Titel 2 Raymond Carver short stories

We read some short stories by Raymond Carver, and study how they are put together by director Robert Altmann. Consequently both short story analysis and film analysis is included in this course, but the primary focus is on fiction.

Textual analysis: point of view, narrative perspective, characterization, setting, etc.

Titel 7 Crime

This course focuses on the theme of crime in modern American society. It deals with both cultural and political issues, and will include fiction as well as non-fiction in text and film. Introduction to rhetorical analysis and forms of appeal will be applied to non-fiction texts.
