Multicultural Britain - Eksamensemne
Formålet med forløbet har været at arbejde med multikulturalisme, immigration og identitet i England. Forløbet har kort præsenteret eleverne for landets historiske kontekst ift. imperialisme og kolonisering. Herunder den føste generation af indvandrere (Windrush Generation) Derefter har forløbet fokuseret på hvordan det er at leve i et multikulturelt samfund mht. diversitet og tolerance. Spørgsmålet om identitet og nationalitet samt hvordan immigranter påvirkes af at have både en baggrundskultur og en ny kultur (Clash of Cultures) er også blevet belyst igennem det udvalgte materiale.

Those of you who have not seen the Riot Club, can access it at Filmstriben or HBO. There are some violent scenes towards the end of the movie. You will be given time to finish your presentation of The Riot Club.

Dette forløb har fokuseret på kendskab til genrerne utopia/dystopia og deres karakteristika, med størst fokus på dystopi. Forløbet har introduceret en genre der er forholdsvis klart defineret og har tydelige kendetegn at arbejde med – og en genre som eleverne er bekendet med fra populærkulturen.
Temaer inden for genren: dystopia, utopia, alienation, dehumanization, social control og social critique. Forløbet indeholder både fiktive og ikke fiktive tekster og film. Der er læst tekster af ældre og nyere dato. Eleverne lavede en mundtlig præsentation af filmen The Beach som inkluderede filmiske virkemidler.

̶ væsentlige strømninger i britisk og amerikansk litteraturhistorie
I forløbet har der været fokus på den litterære strømning, den gotiske genre i fortid og nutid og kendskab tll betydelige amerikanske forfattere. Der har endvidere været fokus på madness som i nogle tekster er udtryk for en reaktion på individet underlagt samfundsmæssige normer og på horror i form af ghosts og uhyrer som udtryk for den undertrykte del af personligheden.
I sidstnævnte del har vi i analyse- og fortolkningsarbejdet inddraget Freud for at nå dybere ned i teksten.
I forbindelse med analysearbejdet er eleverne kort blevet præsenteret for forskellige analytiske metoder så som den biografiske, nykritiske og Freuds personlighedsteori.
Teksterne har været litterære både digte og noveller.
