Beskrivelse af de enkelte undervisningsforløb (1 skema for hvert forløb)
Titel 1 Growing Up

The theme "Growing Up" involves physical, mental and emotional changes involved when a person moves from childhood, through adolescence and into adulthood.
It also involves different situations and happenings in those years of childhood, adolescence and into the beginning of adulthood.

This theme covers a varied collection of materials with different focal points of Growing Up, many of which students can relate to in one way or another or at least put oneself into understanding them.

The materials cover normal situations when growing up to other more serious matters such as being very different / standing out and to shocking life changing situations.

Focal points:
• Family relations and the encounter with adulthood.
• Introduction to literary textual analysis.
• The basic / standard analytical subjects and how to write about them, i.e. summary, title, setting, characterization, theme, message.

- "Contexts",  2nd edition, has been used for most of the texts:

Throughout the course a thorough focus is on the communicative skills of listening, reading, understanding and indeed also on the communicative forms of writing and speaking. In between course materials there will also be written / oral grammar tasks in different grammatical aspects.

Titel 2 Immigrants

The purpose with this main theme “Immigration” is to give the students a better understanding of immigration, immigrants and the reasons behind.

The theme has several sub-themes, depending on the texts, each related to Immigration: (Illegal) Work, Religion, Marriage, and Cultural Differences

The main focal point is immigrants to the UK with a specific focus on the very reasons for immigrating and the backgrounds of the immigrants themselves.


The book "Contexts", 2nd edition, has been used for all the texts (articles / short stories):

- “Long Nights, low pay and no play" by Burhan Wazir.
- "You can't go home again" by Tariq Ramadan.
- “My Son the Fanatic" by Hanif Kureishi.
- "Who´s Irish?" by Gish Jen.
- "Clothes" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.


Throughout the course a thorough focus is on the communicative skills  in English that being listening, reading, understanding and indeed also on the communicative forms of writing and speaking. In relation to each text the students have worked with different work tasks (mainly in smaller groups).

In between the course materials has also been written / oral grammar tasks in different grammatical aspects.

Titel 3 Violence

Violence

There are many different types of violence and it can derive from many different reasons / backgrounds being war, deep historical backgrounds and others social and mental. This theme will also have several sub-themes such as Segregation Violence, Physical Violence, Psychological Violence, Institutional Violence and Blunt Violence.  

In this course / theme the students will work with different kinds of texts from the Contexts book and other sources along with a movie and documentaries.
Throughout the theme there is a strong emphasis on analyzing the text materials (fiction / non-fiction).

Det lille forløb handler om engelsk som "Lingua Franca". Vi lærer hvorfor og hvordan engelsk er blevet verdens "fællessprog" og lidt om, hvordan man taler og bruger engelsk rundt omkring i verden.
