Focus:
Analysis and interpretation of various text genres dealing with the topic of being online.

We will go into detail with aspects such as:

- Ways of communicating (oral <> written, direct <> indirect, lack of communication, interpretation <> misinterpretation, etc.)
- Language on the internet: stylistic features, layout, rhetoric and discourse
- Identity: front stage <> back stage, self-invention, representation of self and other
- Opportunities and consequences: individual and societal

Titel 6 The British Empire and India (Part 1)

Analysis and interpretation of texts dealing with the British Empire, Imperialistic ideas in general and in India.
The students will be interviewing exchange students from India e.g. about how they experience India's imperial past. The students will be writing either a short story or an article (genre characteristics and writing skills in focus) based on the interviews

English and Danish working innovatively with the topic of Memory

Preparations in both subjects:
- What is memory (in science and in literature)
- Which stages can you divide the process of memory creation into?
- What is the difference between semantic and episodic memory?
- Can we trust our memory?
- How can we practice memorizing things?

Working innovatively with Memory:
1) Identify an authentic problem
2) investigate and describe the problem
3) Create a solution and prototype (by means of methods of the two subjects)
4) How are methods of the two subject applied?

Focus of the Course:

Preparing for the Study Trip to Washington by learning about:
- American Values (origin and today)
- Aspects of American History (Immigration, The African American Experience, etc.)
- American Welfare and Inequality
- Communication and Fake News

We will be studying the aspects above by means of reading background material (USA Now) + analysis and interpretation of fiction and non-fiction sources.  

The students will be studying for the trip in their social science classes, too.

Analysis and interpretation of Steinbeck's novella with focus on setting, characters, themes and message + how it overall represents The Great Depression

While reading tasks:

1) Make a characterization of the setting of the novella and put it into perspective with the knowledge you have of the Great Depression in America.


2) Make character sketches of George Milton and Lennie Small (individual character traits, their relationship, their development, etc.) Base your characterizations on quotes from the text.

3) Which symbols do you detect in the novella? Base your interpretation on evidence in the text.


4) Account for the themes of the novella. Remember to base your ideas on evidence in the text.


5) What is the message of the text?
