Titel 4 Being Online

Being online:
The course takes its starting point in the various ways that people in contemporary society employ the internet for e.g. gaining information, building knowledge as well as communicating and interacting on various levels. The act of being online is a global phenomenon in the way that the internet allows for communication and exchange across cultures and nations. It helps about global businesses and markets and becomes a tool for innovation and creativity. It is a field of endless change.

The central focus of the course is Online Communication:

- Ways/Types of communication (written <> oral, direct <> indirect, explicit <> implicit, interpretation <> misinterpretation, lack of or delayed communication, various media and platforms etc.)

- The language(s) of the internet (e.g. stylistic features, layout, rhetoric and discourse)

- The opportunities and consequences of using this platform in the process of communicating – e.g. how people are added with the power to create their own identities (self-invention and representation). In this connection, the aspects of Erving Goffman’s theory of front region and back region are applied.

In terms of innovation, the focus of the course has furthermore been to analyse and interpret new stories shaped by the new formats defined by the internet (e.g. Twitter fiction)
