Titel 2 2: BLM

This topic explores the struggle of blacks to gain equal rights in the US and the slogan and movement behind BLM.

The topic takes its starting point in the case of George Floyd and  reactions to his death and tries to answer the question, why are blacks so angry?

We have read and analyzed speeches by Obama, Boris Johnson, Floyd's brother and Beyonce.

We have read and analysed select texts and genres (the Sun article, press photos, Phil Visher podcast ("Why are Blacks so angry" https://www.facebook.com/PhilVischer/videos/2611898429058130) and a

We have discussed various types of structural racism: slavery, red lining, Jim Crow laws, racial segregation, police brutality etc.

We have also explored how culture and popular images of black people give a very one dimensional and stereotypical version of black people & how this contributes to the notion of black people being culturally and intellectually inferior to white people.

We have worked with 2022 half time show dedicatet to Rap music and worked with music videos and lyrics by Eminem, Dr.Dree etc.

We have watched "Daniels, The Butler" (2013) to get a historic perspective on the struggle for equal rights and to see how racial profiling has played a major part in the past of black Americans.

We have worked with the case of "Aunt Gemina" and discussed the effects and implications of the BLM.

Should cultural products like "The Star Spangled Banner" for instance be replaced on the grounds that the writer was a slave owner?

Cancel culture has been touched upon.

Titel 4 4: Divided Kingdom

The topic takes its starting point in the 2024 riots and puts them into context to the current political and societal situation in England.
England's history as a multicultural society and concepts such as "post factual society", "misinformation/disinformation" & the role of social media have been discussed and explored also. The riots have been put into context to the underlying divisions in British society that also led to Brexit in 2016.
The class divide, the racial/ethnic divide, the geographical divide between the north and the south, the age divide and class divisions in the educational system have all been explored through a variety of texts and genres. (articles, Ted talk, "The Riot Club" (film), rap lyrics.) The polarization of British society has been put into perspective to similar trends in Europe and the US.
As part of the topic class codes such as dialect/sociolect/mannerisms/lifestyle have been studied introducing the students to a variety of British accents and how students' accents and mannerisms will make them feel excluded at "Oxbridge", for instance.
Work with a rap on the accident of the Gren Fell Tower in London (2017) has rounded off the topic as yet another recent example of how ethnic groups and the underpriveleged in British society feel neglected, exploited and discriminated against by politicians and others.

Keywords er bl.a. reasons for war (political, economic, psychological, ethnic/religious, defensive, structural), disillusionment, solidarity, community, bereavement, propaganda, reality vs. concepts of honour and bravery.

Titel 9 9: Evil and Madness (EXAM)

Titel 10 10: Love (EXAM)

Materiale:

Dorthe Hjort Jensen: "Reading Normal People" Columbus 2024 (iBog) - om Sally Rooney og "Ireland in the 2010s"

Normal People (2019), Sally Rooney

"Bildungsroman" (2009) i Along Literary Lines, Elgaard Mogensen og H. Kristensen Back, K.

Materiale:

Christopher Marlowe: ”The Passionate Shepherd to his Love”, 1599 (poem)
W.H. Auden: “Stop All the Clocks”, 1936 (poem)

Titel 11 11: Postmodernism

'fragmentation', 'metafiction', 'intertextuality', 'parody' and 'pastiche', 'irony and playfulness', 'unreliable narration', 'deconstruction of grand narratives' samt 'identity construction' and 'consumer culture'.
