International Economy and Challenges

This course investigates the global economic system and how monetary policy, international trade, and globalization affect both national economies and global relations. Students explore trade theory, interest rates, tariffs, and the power dynamics between major actors like the U.S., EU, and China.

Key themes include the consequences of Trump's tariff policies, central bank independence, global supply chains, and the winners and losers of globalization (e.g. Milanovic’s “Elephant Curve”). We also focus on the role of the EU in Denmark’s economic growth, labour market challenges, and demographic issues such as pension reform and workforce shortages.

Titel 11 Welfare state, labour market and challenges

Welfare State, Labour Market and Challenges

This course examines the structure and challenges of the Danish welfare state in the context of globalization, demographic change, and political reform. Students analyze models of welfare provision, citizenship, and labour market dynamics, with a focus on Denmark’s transition from welfare to competition state.

We work with both theoretical frameworks and real-world policy issues such as declining fertility rates, recruitment difficulties in the public sector, and immigration’s role in supporting welfare finances. Concepts such as Baumol’s cost disease, globalization, and active labour market policy are introduced and discussed.

Titel 12 Forløb#14 KV25

Kommunalvalg 25.
Local politics and voter behaviour.
Collecting Polls and analysing the data will be part of the course. So will a visit at the local City council, Hørsholm municipality.

Faglige mål i særligt fokus:
• anvende og kombinere viden og kundskaber fra fagets discipliner til at undersøge aktuelle samfundsmæssige problemstillinger i Danmark og andre lande og diskutere foreliggende og egne løsninger herpå
• anvende viden, begreber og faglige sammenhænge fra kernestoffet og forskellige teorier fra fagets discipliner til at forklare og diskutere samfundsmæssige problemstillinger og udviklingstendenser
• undersøge og dokumentere et politikområde, her kommunalvalget i Danmark set i forhold til valgkamp og valgresultater i Hørsholm og København
• forholde sig kritisk til forskelligartede materialer fra forskellige typer afsendere og anvende viden om samfundsvidenskabelig metode til at gennemføre mindre empiriske undersøgelser: her af kommunalvalget som det udspiller sig i Hørsholm og København
• formulere præcise faglige problemstillinger, herunder hypoteser, og indsamle og bearbejde dansk og fremmedsproget materiale, herunder statistisk materiale, til at undersøge og diskutere problemstillinger og konkludere

International Relations and Danish Foreign Policy

This course explores key concepts and theories in international relations (IR), with a special focus on Danish foreign policy. Students engage with realism, liberalism, and constructivism as analytical frameworks, and apply them to contemporary global issues such as the war in Ukraine, NATO, U.S. foreign policy, and Arctic security.

The course also investigates international power structures, military and economic power, hybrid warfare, and global diplomacy.
