Titel 2 Climate Crisis

Titel 6 SRO - Why is the Climate Crisis Difficult to Solve

- filmen "Don't Look Up" af Adam McKay, 2021

- dokumentarserien: “Years of Living Dangerously”, produceret af showtime, 2014; Emmy award winner in 2016, first show on climate ever produced by Hollywood; celebrities investing in climate matters.

Class assignment:
- In groups make a powerpoint presentation in which you try to find the answer of the movie "Don't Look Up" as to why the climate crisis is so difficult to solve; do so through analysis of characters, setting, plot development, the use of the comet, the use of humour/satire, the attitude towards the media and political institutions.

- essay with focus on character sketches

Class assignment:
- Make an argumentation analysis and a rhetorical (modes of persuasion) analysis of episode 101 and/or 102 of the mini documentary series “Years of Living Dangerously”
Use Toulmin’s argumentation model (see attachment) and How to Read a non-fiction text in Toolbox (pp. 18-19)
Have this question in mind: “Why is the Climate Crisis so Difficult to Solve?”

Requirements:
You may list your points (claim, data, warrant,…pathos, logos, etos) rather than writing as a coherent text this time, however, remember to explain for instance why you think a data supports the claim, and what a specific pathos appeal does for the argument, and so on.
You may hand in in the groups you worked in or individually.

Titel 7 Hooliganism - an Aspect of Britain

Assignment:

You are to pretend you are a British Hooligan.

Write an article in which you argue for why being a hooligan is a choice you have made/something you ended up being.

So instead for making an analysis of an article in which you find modes of persuasion (pathos, logos, etos),  the pentagon points (fx. what do you want to convince the reader about?) and an argumentation analysis (claim, data, warrant), you are to infuse your article with those things (see Toolbox and the documents in the method folder on Lectio). Also remember you can use imagery (metaphors, similis,  anaphor (repetition in the beginning of a sentence)

Think of a persona to take on in the article and write in a persistent tone according to that persona and let the reason why you are a hooligan be THE RED THREAD in your article.

Example of persona:
- Are you ashamed of being a hooligan because of the bad reputation they have?
- Are you making a confession?
- Are you proud of belonging to a group?
- Do you think it is a natural part of the class/employment/family/group of friends you belong to to be a Hooligan?
- Have you stopped being a Hooligan, due to age, fear, family, regret,....?
- Do you love violence/are you an adrenaline junkie?
-Were you present at the Heysel-Stadium Disaster in 1985? (see videos about it on YouTube)
- Are you the girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband of a hooligan?
- other

Include ideas like:
What class do you belong to, what is your family background, employment situation, social situation, personality, psychological profile, sociology, etc.

Find knowledge about Hooliganism in the attached documents and the internet and use your knowledge in your article. Also use inspiration from Green Street Hooligan. Use vocabulary from the attached list. Make footnotes with references.

- Fakta Info: Understanding Drug Abuse, National Institute on Drug Abuse, US Department of Health and Human Services, March 2011, www.drugabuse.gov

Blevet afspillet for klassen.

Film: Beautiful Boy af Felix Van Goeningen, 2018

Assignments individually or in groups of max 3 (one module):

1. Mark all the verbs in past tense in the text below and change them into present tense (remember congruency).

At what age did Nic Sheff become an addict?
In researching the Beautiful Boy true story, we learned that Nic's life of addiction began with vodka when he was 11. A year later, he was smoking marijuana, which turned into a daily habit by middle school. He was soon experimenting with drugs like acid, ecstasy, mushrooms and cocaine. At the age of 18, he tried crystal meth. It made him feel like he could achieve anything. "I felt like a rock star," Nic says of the first time he used it. However, his feeling of euphoria didn't last long. As the fix wore off, the good feelings evaporated and his body writhed in agony. To keep the good feelings alive, he became a habitual user. He did everything he could to avoid crashing. As a result, the addiction consumed his life and directly affected the lives of his family members. The movie does a good job depicting this. -Oprah.com

2. open the link: https://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/beautiful-boy/
Then choose three statements (marked by quotation marks in the article) by Nic and/or David. Describe in writing how the fictive movie Beautiful Boy portrays the statements (it can be through character sketch, dialogue, language, description of scene etc.).

3. On the basis of the film Beautiful Boy , your walk and talk questions after the film, the interview you watched at home (https://www.historyvshollywood.com/video/david-and-nic-sheff-interview/), and your answers above, make a cause and effect explanation as to the implications of Nic’s drug abuse (that is, try to explain his reasons  for drug abuse and the effects it has on his personality, physical and mental health, his life and on his family’s life). Furthermore, try to find reasons why he eventually managed to be drug free.
Substantiate your answers with quotations and descriptions from your sources.
Put you notes in the lectio folder “Beautiful Boy”.
Present your answers to me orally in groups or individually
