British Multiculturalism and Empire
Fokus i forløbet:
Forløbet undersøger det britiske imperium med fokus på mentaliteten bag imperialisme og kolonialising og går derefter over i at undersøge Indien som et kulturelt land med en fortid som britisk koloni (gennem et læreroplæg udformet som en quiz og en video med ”fun facts” om Indien og elevoplæg om emnerne; clothes, food, language, religion, film/music, sports, means of transportation, rivers/mountains). Desuden undersøgte vi også kvinders forhold i Indien med fokus på kvindesyn og overgreb mod kvinder. Forløbet blev afsluttet med et fokus på tiden efter imperialismen, hvor de britiske grænser blev åbne for tidligere kolonier og Storbritannien blev mere multikulturelt. I denne forbindelse arbejdede vi med integration og assimilationsteori (assimilation, melting pot, salad bowl, Anglo-conformity)
Gennem både fakta- og fiktions-tekster, gives et indblik i:
- hvilken mentalitet, der lå bag briternes imperialismetanke
- hvordan imperialismetiden påvirkede Indien
- hvilke forhold kvinder havde og har i Indien (og kort om kastesystemet)
- hvordan immigranter fra kolonierne blev behandlet, da de kom til Storbritannien, og hvordan det påvirkede dem
