MUSICALS

We examine the musical genre from 1927 and on, watching all of NEXT TO NORMAL and HAMILTON, and excerpts from MY FAIR LADY

We cover the terms of the genre, such as BOOK NUMBERS and RECORDABLE NUMBERS, as well as I AM NUMBERS, I WANT NUMBERS, ELEVEN O'CLOCK NUMBERS, PRODUCTION NUMBERS, COMEDY NUMBERS and FINALE I and II.

We use material from Stephen Citron: "The Musical Inside Out" and Jack Viertel: "The Secret Life of the American Musical".

We have seen numbers from OLIVER!, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, SHOW BOAT, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, CHICAGO, CABARET and LES MISERABLES.

On the basis of a talk on World War I, we watched "Regeneration" (feature film) and "All Quiet on the Western Front" (1930), together with a documentary on differences in the 1930 film and the 2022 film version.
