LOVE
During this course we'll focus on various kinds of love: the media mythologized kinds (our somewhat one-sided and certainly romantic ideals), to Marlowe's pre-romantic notions of love tied to nature's beauty and a series of song lyrics depicting aspects of different stages of modern love. Also included is the modernist and sentimentalist Auden's loving farewell to his love.
The course focuses primarily on how genres differ and how they tend to tell different kinds of stories and it is supposed to tie in with a subsequent course on sex, sexuality and gender.
Margaret Atwood: "Happy Endings" (novel)
Ed Sheeran: "Shape of You" (lyrics)
Taylor Swift: "Lover" (lyrics)

Beyoncé: "Halo" (lyrics)
Taylor Swift: "Love Story" (lyrics)

Der lægges løbende produkter op i Teams-mapper som indgår i en dialog med læreren og andre grupper.

US Guns
This course examines American gun politics with an emphasis on the role of the Constitution and the 2nd amendment (and the main ideas of the Bill of Rights). It also attempts to bring some attention to the structure of the Federal Government and current and past organizations that influence and have influenced American gun politics: the Brady Campaign and the NRA, mainly and in the process point to left and right-wing politics and media.
At the centre of the course, however, stands Michael Moore's now classic documentary: Bowling for Columbine.

Horror
This course examines horror mainly through 5 theories about the genre's functions and origins: the psychological theory, the cultural theory, the biological theory, the postmodern (or apocalyptical) theory and finally, the cosmic horror theory. The course's core terminology focuses on the uncanny, the slasher movie and its final girl, body horror and Stephen King's anti-civilisation emotions. There is also mention of Kristeva's "the abject" and King's three kinds of horror: the gross-out (akin to body horror), the horror (the unnatural) and terror (home invasion or replacement). And of course the horror monster as a reflection of cultural fears.
Texts:
Short story: Stephen King: "The Boogeyman" (1973)

Book Circles
This course is special in the sense that the students will read books of their own choosing in groups of four (and one of five). The structure for each lesson is the same, however: they take turns completing task: summarizer, discussion leader, word wizard and analyzer (grammarian or stylist). Each role has specific instructions:
The Summarizer
Product: a 150-250 word summary of the read passage. In the book circle, he or she reads the summary out to the rest of the group, then asks them if there's something missing. To keep the rest of the group on their toes, one relatively important event must be left out for the group to find!
The Discussion Leader
Product: 4-6 questions for the group to discuss. The questions should have to do with the section of our book you just read and should be interesting and open-ended. In the book circle, after you've read out loud: take down notes on the answers you get from your group.
The Word Wizard
Product: a list of ten difficult words from the section you read, including page and line references. Remember: you have to find the right definition according to the context, so you have to include the context (the whole sentences) to each word. When you meet with your group: First, share the challenging word you found. Show them where it is in the story. Then,
have each person try to predict the definition. After everyone has shared their definitions, you can tell them the real meaning of the word.
The Analyst (themes, grammar or style)
Product: 3 suggestions for specific themes, grammar examples and literary style (in total): in other words: for each of the three categories (themes, grammar and style), find a noteworthy example and describe it in at least 30-50 words.
At the end of the work, each group must produce a podcast episode in which at least two members of the group discuss the book they read.
Also, each member of each group must pick a passage from the part they read for that specific book circle (including a page and line number reference and 3-5 lines describing why they picked that passage).

US Elections & politics
Fokuspunkter (analyse):
Den retoriske pentagon (afsender-modtager, kontekst, sprog, emne og intention) og "news style analysis" (headline, byline, standfirst/kicker, etc.), bias (left-right/Conservative-Progressive)
