Beskrivelse af de enkelte undervisningsforløb (1 skema for hvert forløb)

Titel 1

The American Dream and the Modern Metropolis

I dette forløb stifter eleverne bekendtskab med den amerikanske drøm og den moderne storby. Formålet med dette forløb er at introducerer eleverne til USA gennem et perspektiv, som danner grobund for senere arbejde med samme land. Arbejdet med den amerikanske drøm fungerer da som et fundament, der skal styrke elevernes ordforråd, når det kommer til at diskutere amerikansk kultur, politik og økonomi.

Det andet fokus, den moderne storby, skal give indsigt i de sociale spænd, som er til stede i de amerikanske storbyer. Her diskuteres klasseopdeling og social mobilitet.

Til sidst i forløbet skal eleverne præsentere i grupper og skrive et manuscript, hvor de reflekterer over den amerikanske drøm/den moderne storby.

Det forventes at eleverne efter forløbets afslutning kan diskutere og reflektere over den amerikanske drøm og dens indflydelse på det amerikanske samfund. Derudover forventes det også, at de kan identificere de udfordringer, som opstår med storbyer - altså i relation til klasse, race og subkultur (hip-hop mm.).

Metode: rhetorical pentagram, modes of persuasion, Lasswell's, analyse af forskelle mellem spoken/written discourse.

Aspects of Disney

I dette forløb introduceres eleverne til Disney som koncern, historiefortæller, og kulturel meningsdanner. De får et indgående kendskab til grundlæggelsen af Disney, manden bag og den nuværende rolle, som Disney spiller - både politisk og kulturelt.

Gennem tekstlæsning, nyhedsudsendelser, kort- og spillefilm, får eleverne en bred indføring i de genre, som man arbejder med på gymnasialt niveau. De introduceres ydermere til en bred udvalgsvifte af analysemetoder, som danner grundlag for senere analytisk arbejde.

Titel 3

Climate Change

I forbindelse med deres uddannelse på Køge HHX, hvor klima er i fokus, får eleverne med dette forløb en indføring i klimaforandringer med fokus på udfordringer i den engelsktalende verden, specifikt USA og Indien. De introduceres til klima gennem fag- og skønlitterære tekster, som de sideløbene arbejder med og analysere med det formål at skelne mellem metoder og genre. Derfor er der i dette forløb lagt vægt på non-fiction genre og hvordan man analyserer og diskuterer noveller.

De tre primære tekster har været en fagtekst om klimaforandringer, en novelle og en dokumentar, begge om de udfordringer vi står over for som mennesker og samfund.

Forløbet har også kredset om elevernes egne tanker og kreativitet. De har diskuteret og været kreative ifm. afslutningen på forløbet, hvor de selv har skullet lave reklamer om klimaforandringer.

Titel 4	American Politics I dette forløb introduceres eleverne til Amerikansk politik gennem de politiske partier, voting, healthcare og the 2nd Amendment. Der arbejdes indgående med argumentation, især PEE (PQC), som danner grundlag for senere teoretisk arbejde med argumentationsteori. Arbejdsformen i dette formål er hovedsageligt gruppearbejde, hvor eleverne har lavet plancher og til sidst i forløbet fremlagt om et selvvalgt emne inden for Amerikansk politik. Der arbejdes også med kampagnevideoer, hvor eleverne analyserer filmiske virkemidler og kombinerer det med en diskussion om appelformer og det retoriske pentagram. Faget er således en teoretisk overbygning, der læner sig op ad de analysemetoder, der er blevet brugt i løbet af året. Det overordnede formål er at give eleverne en dybdegående, men ikke udtømmende, introduktion til Amerikansk politik.
