Animal Farm - Literary analysis
This course expands on literary analysis from the first year and requires us to both understand the literary style but also to pick up on allusions to historical events or figures.
It will be a literary reading leading to an ethical discussion of the clash of different ideologies.
Each pair of chapters have a worksheet focusing on aspects of the new critical approach adopted in high school. It also has historical references to the allusions found in Animal Farm (the book).

Black Voices
Sorte amerikaneres historie er en fundamental del af USA's historie. Ikke længe efter de første europæeres ankomst til Nordamerika ankom også afrikanere, typisk som slaver. Slaveriet var især i sydstaterne fundamentet for den amerikanske økonomi, indtil en blodig borgerkrig gjorde en ende på det. Det nye USA, som rejste sig efter borgerkrigen, var et delt land, hvor sorte amerikanere levede som andenrangsborgere. Kampen for deres borgerrettigheder fik momentum i 1960'erne og satte et afgørende præg på amerikanernes historie og selvforståelse.
Op igennem tiden er musik, film og underholdningskulturen blevet gennemsyret af den afrikansk-amerikanske erfaring, og litteraturen er rig på eksempler på forholdet mellem to befolkningsgrupper, der lever så tæt sammen og alligevel er så adskilte. Selv i dag, hvor det amerikanske samfund formelt set er et samfund med lige rettigheder for alle, sættes der konstant spørgsmålstegn ved netop ligeværdigheden.
Forløbet indeholder amerikansk historie, kultur og litteratur og afsøger sorte amerikaneres plads i det amerikanske samfund fra slaveriets indførsel og til i dag. Forløbet er inddelt i 3 hisitoriske perioder: før borgerkrigen, Jim Crow-æraen og borgerrettighedsbevægelsen i 1960'erne.

The UK Today
I forløbet introduceres eleverne til det politiske system samt den nuværende politiske situation i Storbritannien. Dernæst fokuserer vi på temaet fattigdom og særligt i udviklingen i de seneste fem års kriser pga. Brexit, Covid-19 samt cost-of-living crisis.
Teksterne består af primært af sagprosa, og eleverne lærer at retorisk analyse. Vi undersøger desuden hjemmesider og ser en række videoer om temaet. Forløbet afsluttet med et argumentative essay med afsæt i de læste/sete tekster.

Going Places
The texts in this course deal with travelling. What makes us pack our bags and head out? What do we hope and expect to find, and what do we learn from new experiences and foreign cultures?
The people, real and fictional, you'll come across in this chapter take us on journeys around the world from the shores of Florida to the dangers of the African jungle to the tranquillity of a remote Nepalese village. The texts shed light on different cultures, their similarities and differences and the way these cultures see each other. When learning about others, we also learn about ourselves. When going to places far away, we learn about home, too.
COURSE OVERVIEW: GOING PLACES

- Exploring themes about the clashes of culture and identity.
- Analytic focus: the way fictional stories are told through narrative techniques and literary devices.
- Reflections on the use of English as a lingua franca.

- udtrykke sig sammenhængende og forholdsvis flydende, herunder formulere egne synspunkter, i præsentation, samtale og diskussion på engelsk om almene og faglige emner med relativ høj grad af grammatisk korrekthed
- eleverne spores ind på de givne emnemæssige og analytiske fokuspunkter, der er lagt an til i kapitlet. Dernæst en række tekster, som hver især introduceres med gode spørgsmål, der involverer elevernes forforståelse og inviterer dem til at gøre sig nogle tanker om emner,
som måske ikke står skarpt i fokus, men er både relevante og aktuelle ift. gymnasiebekendtgørelsens fokus på at gøre de unge til aktive
medborgere.

For most people in the 21st century, technology is just an ordinary part of everyday life; something we use with effortless ease. So why even study technology? Technologies and technological development have given man unprecedented power, and as technology evolves, everything changes, be it society, culture, everyday life, even our view of the world. Technology may be the key to many of the world’s problems, but technology in itself brings about new questions and dilemmas that man is forced to deal with. This book aims to shed light on some of these problems.
Future Technologies, aims to examine how some future technologies will affect man and the world we live in.
The course contains a varied selection of tasks, giving you the possibility of working with textual analysis, grammar, language awareness, and technology in a wider perspective.
