United Kingdoms
During the subject of the United Kingdoms, we will be looking at the four nations and the industrial revolution.
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their unique identity and all belong to the country of the United Kingdoms. We will look at the similiarities and differences between the four.
The United Kingdom during the first Industrial revolution changed in demographics. People moved from rural areas to the cities, and the class system was created.

Canada
In this unit, we have explored the many aspects that shape Canadian identity. We looked at how history, culture, and values influence what it means to be Canadian today. Key themes included national pride, multiculturalism, and the contrast between Canadian and other cultural identities. We also discussed the importance of family, tradition, and belonging in Canadian society.

Crime has long fascinated readers and audiences, capturing our attention through both fictional tales and real-life accounts. In literature and media, crime serves as a lens through which society explores justice, morality, and human psychology. Fictional crime stories—from classic detective novels to contemporary thrillers—offer imaginative narratives that often resolve with clear-cut justice or moral reckoning. In contrast, true crime delves into real events, presenting the often messy and unresolved realities of criminal behavior and its consequences. In this course, we will listen to a true crime podacast in which we will also take a look at the media.
Both genres, while distinct, share a common appeal: they allow us to confront the darker aspects of human nature from a safe distance. Whether it's the calculated genius of a fictional sleuth or the chilling complexity of a real criminal case, crime stories challenge our perceptions of good and evil, law and disorder. This intersection of fact and fiction raises important questions about truth, storytelling, and our cultural obsession with crime. It also allows us to try to solve the crime as spectators. In this course, who-donnit is also going to be an aspect and you will have to solve crimes.

We will start the year by working on your writing skills. We will continue to write five point essays and by the end of the course, you will all know the genre by heart and write like pros
We will work on structure, coherence and cohesion. We will look at different types of argumentation and retorical devises. This will includes the modes of persuasion and models such as Toulmin's model of argumantation.

Animals
Throughout history, animals have held a significant place in human culture, knowledge, and imagination. They appear not only as subjects of scientific inquiry but also as powerful symbols in literature and storytelling. In this unit, we will explore animals from two distinct perspectives: the imaginative world of fiction and the factual world of documentaries.
From the fictional world we will read about animals that are used symbolically. Fables are traditional short stories that often use animals as characters to convey moral lessons or reflect aspects of human nature. These stories invite us to think critically about behavior, ethics, and society through metaphor and allegory. The symolic use in many other genres in way to describe and add to fx. the setting. This is the case in the story of Dracula. In contrast, documentaries traditionally aim to present factual, evidence-based representations of animals and their natural environments. They offer insight into animal behavior, adaptation, and the complex ecosystems in which they live. However, fictional elements are often used in documentaries.
By examining both genres, students will gain a broader understanding of how animals are represented in different contexts—both fictional and factual. As a culmination of the unit, each student will create an original documentary about an animal, applying research skills, creativity, and an awareness of how storytelling shapes our understanding of the natural world.

The students have explored the theme of Christmas through a variety of texts and media. They have watched and analyzed King Charles’ Christmas speech, focusing on both its message and rhetorical style. As part of their literary studies, they worked with the short story Auggie Wrench’s Christmas Story, examining how postmodern elements are used to challenge traditional Christmas narratives. In addition, students have read and discussed various short texts, each offering a unique perspective on the meaning and celebration of Christmas. Cinematic effects and fictional analysis were in focus, as the students watched the christmas moveis either Klaus or The Grinch. Altogether, the students have gained insight into how Christmas is represented and questioned in different forms of communication and storytelling.

I dette forløb arbejder vi med genren "Fantasy". Indledningsvis arbejder vi med de forskellige former for fantasy. Herefter dykker vi ned i et par tekster med filmen Lord of the Rings, som vi bagefter læser et uddrag af. Dernæst arbejder vi med et tekstuddrag af The Lion, the witch and wardrobe (Narnia). Afslutningsvis ser vi på klassiske karaktertyper og deres dialekter.

Animal Farm
We will read the novel "Animal Farm" by George Orwell from 1945.
"Animal Farm" explores themes such as the corruption of power, the betrayal of revolutionary ideals, class inequality, and the manipulation of truth through propaganda. The animals are used symbolically to represent different social and political groups: the pigs symbolize the ruling elite (especially Stalin and the Soviet leadership), the hardworking horse Boxer represents the exploited working class, and the sheep reflect blind followers. Through this allegory, Orwell critiques the way revolutions can lead to new forms of oppression.
