Rhetoric and communication
Theoretical course introducing production- and analysis of non-fiction texts. Elements such as the history of rhetoric, the rhetorical pentagram/rhetorical analysis and non-verbal communication are explored.
Part of the course focuses on a rhetorical analysis of Michelle Obama's speech, 'The Power of Education' (2013). In addition, a shortened version of Amy Cuddy's TED Talk on non-verbal communication, 'Fake It Till You Make It' (2012), is a centerpiece in this course (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVmMeMcGc0Y).

The British Empire
This course explores the early and late British Empire, focusing especially on the role of English as lingua franca as well as India as a former British colony.
We have analysed both fiction and non-fiction in the process.
In addition, we have had a collaboration with the Danish NGO 'Gadens Børn', which is based in Calcutta. This project includes working with UN's Global Goals, the conditions for Indian children and families living on the streets, and the importance of education.

Utopia/Dystopia - Survival of the fittest
This topic focuses on characteristics of dystopian literature, involving analyses of both old and contemporary material (fiction).
As an introduction to the topic the students had to discuss and reflect upon how their utopian societies would be constructed and which set of values that would rule.

This course revolves around the American presidential election, 2024, the key elements being:
What is ‘an American’ and which ideals and values form American society?
The three branches of government on federal-, state- and local level, incl. checks and balances.
How is it decided who is to serve in the Oval Office? We will become acquainted with the general election process.
Getting to know the presidential candidates and their political positions on key issues; the economy, immigration and abortion legislation.
Exit polls - what are the predictions before election day?
The outcome / rhetorical analysis of Kamala Harris' concession speech / future predictions.

Technology and human relations
This course explores the impact of technology on human relations. We will read and watch even more dystopian literature/productions, where technology is a key theme. In addition, this course includes a minor cross-curricular course in collaboration with informatics, which deals with the concept of digital empowerment. We will watch 'The Social Dilemma', collect data on our own SoMe usage, learn about algorithms and the tech companies' business models, as well as the students have to produce podcasts, which serve the purpose of raising young people's awareness in regard to digital empowerment.
The theoretical knowledge that the students were presented to in the previous Utopia/dystopia course is applicable also to this topic.

This course explores the nature of multicultural Britain.
We have analysed both fiction and non-fiction, looked into data on race and ethnicity in present day Britain, unfolded the results of the Brexit referendum and in that regard learned about the Briton's view on globalisation and immigration.
