We have explored the rise of social media platforms and how they affect our individual, social and political lives. There has been an emphasis on: radicalization, surveillance, addiction and fake news in this course.

In this course, students have analyzed and interpreted texts that are related to British imperialism and colonialism. We've explored the implications and effects of British imperialism by analyzing the relationship between the colonizer and the colonized. The students have been introduced to key terms in post-colonial theory.

Gender (exam)
This course revolves around how gender is represented in different literary periods. We are analyzing the role of women, attitudes to gender and lgbtq in various texts, both fiction and non-fiction. The aim is to get a better understanding of how the concepts of masculinity and femininity have evolved over time.
Fokus: litterær analyse, ikke-litterær analyse, kvindens rolle i samfundet og forståelse af køn i forskellige historiske og litterære perioder. Kort introduktion til feministisk læsning.

This course covers the American presidential election and the American political system in relation to electing the president. Student will present news articles to the class, and we'll analyze the rhetoric and language used by pundits and presidential candidates alike.
Students will discuss American political issues, and we'll focus on abortion as an election topic.

Normal People (exam)
In this course, we've read Sally Rooney's novel "Normal People". We've analyzed the structure, characters, literary devices and themes in the novel in trying to grasp the popularity and status as a millennial classic that the novel has garnered over the last couple of years. "New Sincerity" has been covered as a literary tendency in order to put the novel into context. We've furthermore read reviews of the novel to understand how the novel was received.
Student presentations have been conducted with an emphasis on summarizing chapters, literary analysis and discussion questions. We've worked with the themes of loneliness, identity, social relations and class.

British Issues (exam)
In this course, students will explore the topics of Brexit and the concept of Britishness. Students will explore the political and social factors that led to the 2016 referendum vote through textual analysis, interpretation and group discussions. The course will furthermore give perspectives on the complex issues surrounding British migration, what it means to be British and the rise of far-right nationalism. We've furthermore discussed how English can be viewed and understood as a lingua franca.
