Analysing speeches
This is an introductory course on analysing non-fiction, more specifically speeches.
This course introduces to the rhetorical pentagon, appeal forms, rhetorical devices, Toulmin's model of argumentation and different types of speeches.
The course also presents the five-point-paragraph essay writing style.
The speeches analysed are:

British politics: Churchill, Thatcher & Brexit
This course presents the British system of parliament, voting and the relationship between the Prime Minister and the Monarch. The course also includes SR-1, in which we worked interdisciplinarily with Social Studies.
Historically, we analyse the political climate of Winston Churchill's time as Prime Minister during the second world war, and briefly also his second term.
The next historical frame is Thatcher's reign with a focus on the miners' strikes and Thatcher's rhetoric. We also look into the relationship between Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth II.
The course also includes knowledge about the structure and function of the British Parliament.
Lastly, we look at the political chaos during (and after) the Brexit vote.
Core texts during this course consist of mostly non-fiction texts, among which are select speeches by Churchill and Thatcher, as well as some news articles.
We have also watched two episodes of The Crown, and the film "Darkest Hour", which focuses on Churchill during the war.
Lastly, we finished off with group projects on Brexit, during which each group analysed two articles and one short film.

The course deals with three basic analytic concepts: Narrative, narrator, and character. It gives the students a fundamental grasp of the how's and why's of literary analysis.

Opioids and Opium
Forløbet tager udgangspunkt i den amerikanske opioidkrise, og spørger: Hvordan havnede vi her? Lavet som opvarmning til det amerikanske valg.
Første del af kurset består af et historisk tilbageblik, hvor vi ser på opiums rolle i det britiske imperium, med særligt fokus på Indien/Kina og den første opiumskrig. Der er også sat et par moduler af til arbejde med opiums rolle i den britiske romantik.
Anden del af kurset bringer os tilbage til den amerikanske opioidkrise, hvor vi ser på "The Boston Brahmins" - de amerikanske opiumshandlere - og den enorme rigdom/indflydelse, de havde/fik. Vi slutter med at arbejde med The Sackler Family/den nuværende opioidkrise og ser dokumentarfilmen All The Beauty and The Bloodshed.

This course focuses on spoken English and its many different forms, focusing on the difference between General American and Received Pronunciation. The course covers basic phonetic knowledge, sociolinguistics including acrolects, mesolects and balisects, cultural traits in language, and English as a Lingua Franca, Kachru's model of language.

Feminism
Dette forløb tager udgangspunkt i feminisme som et historisk og kulturelt fænomen, og inddrager historiske nedslagspunkter for at illustrere de forskellige bølger af feminisme. Forløbet lægger vægt på forskellene mellem bølgerne, samt de modbevægelser, der opstår ved kulturelle bevægelser som feminisme. Dette indebærer også interne kampe, som fx suffragette/suffragist opdelingen, Equal Rights Amendment-debatten i USA med Betty Friedan mod Phyllis Schlafly, intersektionalitet i tredjebølge og kritik af feminismens farveblindhed, Germaine Greer mod tredjebølge, Manosphere og Tradwives.
