Titel 4	3. Political Activism 3. Political Activism Political activism and activists This course will focus on political activism in the 21st century, primarily in the US. In particular, we will focus on young people who have changed the world through different forms of political activism. We will discuss how the students themselves can challenge norms and bring about cultural, social and political change in the world. Through the analysis of texts (mainly speeches and articles) the students will obtain knowledge about topics such as school shootings and gender equality. Furthermore, this course will enable the students to communicate across borders about political and social activism. The students will learn how to analyse and interpret a speech focusing on the use of rhetorical devices and appeal forms in the speech and will start writing essays about non-fiction texts. The American Dream

I dette forløb skal vi arbejde med The American Dream. Vi skal læse ‘The Declaration of Independence’ og andre udvalgte tekster som handler om troen på, at borgere i USA trods af socialklasse gennem hårdt arbejde og viljekraft kan forbedre deres liv.
Vi går kronologisk til værks og starter ved puritanernes ankomst til ”den nye verden”, og læser teksten ”The Frontier Heritage” og slutter med at diskutere om The American Dream er en realistisk idé eller ej.
