Titel 2 The American Dream (elaborating FF1)

Titel 6 Asperger's syndrome in fiction/reading a novel

Asperger's syndrome in fiction/reading a novel

This topic evolves around Asperger’s syndrome and the way people with the syndrome behave and try to cope with the surrounding world and the social codes, they tend to have a hard time deciphering.
Christopher John Francis Boone, the protagonist in "The Curoius Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests yellow. Christopher’s goal in the novel resembles that of many teenage protagonists in coming-of-age stories: to become independent and find his role in the world. Because of his condition, Christopher cannot be as independent as he would like.
Moreover, his surroundings are extremely challenged by his syndrome.

Christopher and his family's fight resemble in many ways the protagonists Nathan and Sam, in respectively the film "X+Y" and the series "Atypical".

The thematic elements listed above have been the focus of analysis and interpretation in the topic.

Titel 7 Contemporary Black America EXAM

The topic takes its starting point in a short introduction to the end of the Civil War, Jim Crow laws, lynchings in the 50s and 60s and Billie Holiday's take on this.
Moreover, the topic deals mainly with chapter 4 in the book "Black Voices", Bianca Ehrlich Møller, Gyldendal, 2016  which is called: Post-Racist America.

Through non-fiction texts, song lyrics, a short film, a novel excerpt, a timeline of police brutality, a speech and a documentary, the chapter introduces a contemporary America which is still at large very racist, not least in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. Where does this structural racism and police brutality come from and how does it affect the black minority in contemporary US? These are some of the questions the topic has shed a light on and tried to answer/discuss.

ENGELSK:
This FF-topic deals with the concept of evil and the way it is portrayed in both fiction and non-fiction. How can we define evil? Do we need evil to understand what is good? Is man fundamentally evil or good - or do we all posses both elements? What triggers evil and what prevents it from surfacing? Can evil acts be forgiven? Are they sometimes neccessay for the greater good? Why are we so fascinated by evil?
These are some of the elements the topic approaches through various material - fiction and non-fiction - "Watchmen" being the pivotal point for analysis in RELIGION AND ENGLISH.

Class has read the entire novel and the pivotal points of analysis are:
Characters, narration, setting, imagery, foreshadowings, the frame novel and themes - the overall question being:

Titel 13 Transgressive Fiction

VIKAR JANUAR 2025:

Genreundersøgelse med nedslag i centrale teksteksempler og teoretisk  baggrund i: Transgressive fiction is a genre of literature which focuses on characters who feel confined by the norms and expectations of society and who break free of those confines in unusual or illicit ways.
Because they are rebelling against the basic norms of society, protagonists of transgressive fiction may seem mentally ill, anti-social, or nihilistic. The genre deals extensively with taboo subject matters such as drugs, sexual activity, violence, incest, pedophilia, and crime. The genre of "transgressive fiction" was defined by Los Angeles Times literary critic Michael Silverblatt.
Rene Chun, a journalist for The New York Times, described transgressive fiction:
“A literary genre that graphically explores such topics as incest and other aberrant sexual practices, mutilation, the sprouting of sexual organs in various places on the human body, urban violence and violence against women, drug use, and highly dysfunctional family relationships, and that is based on the premise that knowledge is to be found at the edge of experience and that the body is the site for gaining knowledge.”
The genre has been the subject of controversy, and many forerunners of transgressive fiction, including William S. Burroughs and Hubert Selby Jr., have been the subjects of obscenity trials.
Transgressive fiction shares similarities with splatterpunk, noir, and erotic fiction in its willingness to portray forbidden behaviors and shock readers. But it differs in that protagonists often pursue means to better themselves and their surroundings—albeit unusual and extreme ones. Much transgressive fiction deals with searches for self-identity, inner peace, or personal freedom. Unbound by usual restrictions of taste and literary convention, its proponents claim that transgressive fiction is capable of incisive social commentary.

Titel 15 Shakespeare's world EXAM

This topic gives an introduction to Shakespeare's world including a brief overview of the Elizabethan Age/the Renaissance, the Chain of Being, his definition of the tragic hero and the tragedy, as well as an introduction to the sonnet form and Shakespeare’s portrayal of love and the relationship between man and woman. Special attention is paid to Shakespeare’s literary style, language and use of symbolism in ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Selected excerpts from the play are read intensively and compared to Baz Lurhmann’s film version: ‘Romeo + Juliet’.
The topic also includes a written assignment on the last pages of the play: Act V, scene 3, line 123-210, focusing on language, poetic devices, the terminology of the tragedy and overall themes of the play.

Moreover, the sonnet and its chacteristics are also introduced by working with sonnets in the play as well as number 18 and 116.

Lastly, a perspective is made to a short excerpt of "Macbeth" and the play's depiction of love/ambition and power. In this relation, "Macbeth's" challenge of order in the Great Chain of Being in relation to "Romeo and Juliet" is examined.
