Titel 1 Forløb#1: Young Citizens of the World

Young Citizens of the World
Grundforløb i engelsk

Globalisation is now recognised as a key factor influencing the lives of young people. In many western countries, globalisation has a strong impact at social, economic and cultural levels.

These changes are also often linked to the ambiguity about identity and sense of place in the world. Young people are most directly affected by globalisation and therefore central to current debates on identity. They experience globalisation on an everyday basis through employment patterns, the friendship groups they develop, their usage of the internet and wider cultural influences on their lifestyles.

Inspired by that, all the texts we have chosen for this course are thematically linked to the relationship between identity, culture and place.

Titel 3 Forløb#3 Great Speakers

In this course we will investigate the art of speaking. It is the aim to heighten your awareness on the rhetorical devices great speakers use in order to make people believe in them and their ideas. The course is organised as a project in which the class will be divided into groups of three. Each group must find a speech, they find relevant to study in depth, and deliver their conclusions in a podcast.

Titel 9 Forløb#9 Shakespeare in Love EXAM

Earlier this year we read Sally Rooney’s novel Normal People, which by some is called a reimagination of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Both stories are tragedies about love, conflict, and societal expectations, but with essential differences due to their historical circumstances. This course is therefore a natural continuation of our investigation of the theme of love. However, in Romeo and Juliet the 'star-crossed lovers' are on opposing sides of a feud between two families, while the pair in Normal People come from different sides of the class divide.

The aim of the course is to:
-Introduce students to Shakespeare’s life and work as well as the time he lived in (The renaissance and the Elizabetha Age)
-introduce students to the Shakesperean sonnet (iambic pentameter, rhyme scheme, poetic figures and imagery)
-analyse and interpret the sonnet
-analyse and interpret excerpts from the play with a special focus on dramatic devices, characters, poetic language and
-Compare how the theme of love is portrayed across time

Texts:
- William Shakespeare: Sonnet 18 (”Shall i compare thee to a summer’s day”)
- William Shakespeare: Sonnet 130 (”My mistres eyes are nothing like the sun”)
- William Shakespeare: ”Prologue” of Romeo and Juliet, approx. 1597.

Titel 11 Forløb#11 Inequality, Identity and belonging EXAM

Over the last 30 years Britain's population has changed rapidly and become much more diverse. At the same time, the capital, London, has become richer relative to the rest of the UK and more divided as inequality within the city has deepened.

Multicultural societies are characterized by people of different races, ethnicities, and nationalities living together in the same community. In multicultural communities, people retain, pass down, celebrate, and share their unique cultural ways of life, languages, art, traditions, and behaviors. In this course we will investigate the relationship between identity and place with a special focus on multicultural Britain.

Titel 12 Forløb#12: Evil and horror EXAM

This course deals with the concept of evil and the way it is portrayed in in both realism and in dystopian fiction. How to define evil?
What triggers evil and what prevents it from surfacing? Why are we so fascinated by evil?
