11. Love and Gender Roles - and Shakespeare
In this course we explore how love, relationships, gender roles and gender stereotypes are portrayed in literature and film today and in earlier times. We ask questions such as:
- How do Romeo and Juliet challenge gender roles of their time?
- How does Kate Chopin challenge the expectations of women in the late 1800s?
- How does Grease depict - and challenge - gender stereotypes?
- What are the expectations of men and women today - how does Kevin Love question modern masculine ideals?
- How does Shakespeare portray love in Romeo and Juliet?
- How does modern fiction portray love and relationships?
