We read our first novel "Dead Poets Society" - focusing on characterisation, theme and message before moving on to learning about Romanticism and man's view on nature in romantic poems and paintings. Relevant models for analysis of paintings and poems are introduced.

Man and Nature
In continuation of the previous unit, we turn our attention to ways in which man and nature coexist today. Also, the unit is an introduction to film analysis and essay writing, hence, focus is on relevant models for analysis. Initially, the students did art projects in which they expressed their interpretation of man vs nature today.

Literary Minimalism EXAM
The purpose of this unit is to focus on genre features of short stories and poems and to become familiar with the literary genre 'Minimalism'. We look at characteristic minimalist features in short stories by Ernest Hemingway and poems by Raymond Carver, and we read about the authors' own lives in order to put the texts into perspective. In continuation of this, we focus on, among other things, the topic 'communication' (or lack thereof). Finally, the students remediate a Carver poem. The students present their product and share their thoughts and decisions during the process and in relation to the final product.
The students choose from the following Carver poems:

"Of Mice and Men" (værk)
Taking our starting point in the 1930s in America, which is marked by The Great Depression and The Dust Bowl, we read and analyse John Steinbeck's classic piece "Of Mice and Men". In the novel we see the flipside of the American Dream, where many Americans were forced to leave their homes to find work as migrant workers and were consequently degraded to second rate citizens. Through Crook's character we talk about what it meant to be black in the 1930s and through Curley's wife we see what it meant to be a woman in the same period. Analytical focus points are setting, characterization, themes and symbols. We also see the 1992 adaptation of "Of Mice and Men" which we analyse using The Hollywood Model.
Finally we talk 'metoder' in relation to SRO and, eventually, SRP and, in groups, the students present different readings of the novel.

Sex, Gender and Identity - Optakt til SRO (EXAM)
During this topic we have focused on the differences between sex and gender and what gender stereotypes can mean for a person’s sense of identity. We have talked about gender neutral parenting as well as the importance of body language in a world where heteronormativity still is the norm. And we have focused on gender norms and stereotypes. Overall, the importance of words and how the words we use influence our perception of ourselves and our surrounding world has been an important element of this unit.
Central terms are:
Toulmin’s Model of Argumentation: claim, ground, warrant, backing, re-buttal and qualifier.
Rhetorical devices: modes of persuasion (logos, ethos, pathos), allusion, antithesis/contrast, connotation, denotation, irony/humour etc.
Film analysis: characterisation, setting, symbols

This unit focuses on the concept of evil and how it is portrayed in non-fiction and in different genres of fiction.
You will learn to
- discuss what evil is and how you define it yourself
- know the distinction between “bad” and “mad” (also called “moral evil” and “natural evil”)
- use the distinction between “moral evil” and “natural evil” to discuss the evil in different texts
- discuss how cinematic effects are used in context with the mood/tone of a film
- discuss how cinematic effects are used in portraying different aspects of characters.

Med henblik på at sætte et lille udvalg af Shakespeares værker ind i en historisk, sproglig, samfundsmæssig og kulturel sammenhæng, har vi fokuseret på menneskesynet i værkerne, herunder individets valg set i forhold til individuelle ønsker og hensynet til familien. Værkernes budskab har vi desuden sat i forhold til datidens og nutidens samfund.
De faglige mål med forløbet: Kendskab til centrale begreber, genren, perioden og til Shakespeare samt fokus på de centrale emner og problemstillinger i de læste tekster
