Titel 7 Macbeth

In this unit on Shakespeare's Macbeth we will explore how a noble Renaissance hero becomes evil through ambition and greed. We will trace Macbeth from Act 1,2 until the very end and look at his relationships with especially his Wife and his friend Banquo.

We will delve into concepts such as soliloquy, aside, dramatic irony and look at how Shakespeare uses language and style - from metaphor and symbolism to iambic pentameter and trochaic tetrameter - to shape meaning and effect.

Moreover, there will naturally be a focus on the Renaissance where we find a new curiousity towards human potential, the natural world and classical antiquity (Greek/Roman mythology). In this way Shakepeare is so crucial when we explore the inner workings of the human psyche.

Lastly, Shakespeare wrote Macbeth during King James (Jacobeab Age) and we will discuss his influence on the play.
