In this first part of the course, the students will be introduced to IB biology and how to study for this course.
First theme is about the common unit of all life: The cell. Also about the molecules of the cell.
The teaching be structured in an inquirery based form, where the theoretical content is supported with work in the laboratory.

This theme will evolve around plants - how they are build, how they are adapted to the environment and how they reproduce.
We move form cell level and to the level of whole organisms, investigating how the different parts of an organism is structured to function.
The content will give the student a solid base of knowledge and know-how before their IA (internal assesment).

In this theme we focus on what biodiversity is, and how it came about by evolution and speciation.
This is part one of the theme - the second part will be placed at the start of the next school year.
The group 4 project, which is a collaboration between the natural sciences (physics, chemistry, ESS and biology) is integrated in this theme. This project will include a field trip to study marine ecology.

IA - Internal assesment
This theme runs parallel to the theme on evolution.
The aim is for each student to individually explore a research question by working in the field or in the laboratory.
The student should find their own RQ, plan and execute an investigation, collect data, mathematicly process the collected data, discuss their findings and conclude on the research. This is then reported in their IA.
Even though this is an individual task, I will help them to structure the process, help in the lab and guide them on their choise of RQ. The students will receive written and feedback on their draft.
