In this unit we have talked about the school system in England, with focus on boarding schools/prep schools. Our focus has been on the downsides to a life in a boarding school. Through our material we have introduced the students to different genres and analyses of both fact and fiction.

Literary Minimalism: Raymond Carver (værk)
We have worked with the genre of literary minimalism via Raymond Carver's short stories and an interview with him from 1995. Since "Lemonade" is a poem we talked a bit about Carver's poetry. Focus has been on the literary analysis of the short stories, through comparative analyses of the different stories in "Short Cuts".

Different Worlds
This unit focuses on different ways of life in different cultures, and the idea of being caught between two cultures and the consequences of this. We have focused mainly on the Aboriginal culture in Australia and the Maori culture in New Zealand. Both fiction and non-fiction as well as cinematic analysis of films have been part of this unit.

In this unit we have focused on poetry and discussed what makes a poem a poem. We have analysed the poems traditionally and especially focused on the circumstances in which the poem was written and/or when and why the poem was particularly popular - how the poem has lived so to speak. We rounded the unit off with the students presenting their favourite song lyrics or poem.
