This course covers key historical events and themes with a particular emphasis on the First World War. The primary areas of focus include:

- Long-term causes: Political, economic, social, and ideological factors that contributed to the outbreak of war.
- Short-term causes: Key events and crises that directly led to war.
- Course of the war: Major battles, strategies, the role of technology, and turning points.
- Effects of the war: Political, economic, and social consequences for the nations involved and the broader world.

The approach in this History course is analytical, considering multiple perspectives and historical interpretations. The primary academic focus is writing, getting ready for the source-based Paper 1, and preparing for more advanced academic writing in a mini project.
