1. Going Places
This course deals with the topic travelling. What makes us pack our bags and head out? What do we hope and expect to find, and what do we learn from new experiences and foreign cultures?
The people, real and fictional, you'll come across in this course take us on journeys around the world. The texts shed light on different cultures, their similarities and differences and the way these cultures see each other. When learning about others, we also learn about ourselves. When going to places far away, we learn about home, too.
When you have worked with this chapter, you will have:
- Learned more about various aspects of travelling and going places.
- Studied texts about clashes of culture and identity.
- Analysed the way fictional stories are told through narrative techniques and literary devices.
