Beskrivelse:
Eleverne har arbejdet med science fiction-genren gennem noveller, artikler, videoer og filmklip. De har læst tekster som The Veldt, Harrison Bergeron og The Fun They Had og diskuteret teknologiens rolle i samfundet og dens konsekvenser. De har analyseret virkemidler og temaer i både fiktive og ikke-fiktive tekster og set uddrag fra Nosedive og Blade Runner. Derudover har de arbejdet med genretræk, centrale sci-fi-begreber og grammatik, særligt kongruens og brugen af adjektiver og adverbier.

Titel 2 American Ideas and Beliefs *EXAM*

Eleverne har arbejdet med de amerikanske grundværdier og idealer gennem taler, essays, litterære uddrag, artikler og reklamer. De har undersøgt begreber som The American Dream, frontier spirit, individualism og exceptionalism med udgangspunkt i både historiske og nutidige tekster af bl.a. Barack Obama, Langston Hughes og Tara Westover.

Temaer som race, identitet og social mobilitet er blevet diskuteret med støtte fra videoer og reklamer som Born the Hard Way. Derudover har eleverne arbejdet med grammatik, især relative pronominer, verbets tider og Delprøve 1 træning.

Titel 3 Worlds of Fantasy *EXAM*

Our point of departure in this theme is a study of the typical genre elements found in the textbook Worlds of Fantasy. The material used is a mixture of classic fantasy stories and excerpts from contemporary fantasy literature.

A main focus is placed on understanding the genre and its characteristics, such as the the chosen one and the evil opponent, high and low fantasy, quest and resolution, and magical inventory.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling is read as the required literary work in the class curriculum.

Titel 4 Australia - then & now *EXAM*

The theme takes its starting point in James Cook’s discovery of the Australian continent and concludes with the reconciliation process and Kevin Rudd’s formal apology in 2008.

The focus is on the settlement of Australia following the arrival of the convicts of the First Fleet, the frontier conflicts, the Stolen Generation, and the Aboriginal population’s subsequent struggle with identity, belonging, and their place in Australian society.

The theme focuses on what makes a multicultural society possible in the United Kingdom and on the issue of identity. It includes a brief overview of the rise and fall of the British Empire, the Open Door Policy, and the push and pull factors that led to immigration. The issue of fitting in and the split identity experienced by immigrants trying to integrate are analysed through texts and film.

From a historical perspective, this theme focuses on the conditions of the African American population in the USA and addresses the question: How have these conditions changed from early colonisation to the present day? Special emphasis is placed on slavery, famous abolitionists, the Jim Crow laws, segregation, systemic racism, Black Lives Matter, and the excavation of Seneca Village in Central Park, New York.
